Kampala- WORLD 3000m-steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru collapsed at New Vision head offices in Kampala early yesterdayInzikuru collapsed at the reception shortly before delivering a letter of disappointment over governments delay to fulfil pledges to reward her for winning a gold medal.

Naar het ziekenhuis
Inzikuru, who said she had been training intensively in Kololo, Nakawa, Kyambogo, Kireka and Bugolobi, arrived at the office at the Third Street at 8:05am and greeted New Vision staff. Clad in Adidas sportswear, she asked for cold water before stretching. “She started breathing heavily after drinking two mineral water bottles and collapsed,” receptionist Camilla Asiya said. She was rushed to IAA clinic on Kitgum House.Inzikuru, who could not recognise anyone, cried as she complained of headache and stiff legs. She held her chest tightly. She was transferred to International Hospital Kampala where she regained consciousness 30 minutes later.A doctor described her situation as minor. “She will be fine soon. Such cases happen when one is frustrated so much,” the doctor said. Inzikuru then demanded to know if she was still at The New Vision offices. In the letter, Inzikuru focused on the car, house, money and a diplomatic passport she was promised in Parliament after her triumphal return from Helsinki, Finland. She has a special passport. After regaining senses, Inzikuru said, “I am frustrated. I cannot train with a clear mind yet I have to compete in Europe. I have nothing of all that I was promised when I won a gold medal. Now people say I have bought a car yet I dont have any,” Inzikuru said. She said she got a sh570m house in Naguru but state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi denied the promises and was angry with her.

Al de derde keer
This is the third time that Inzikuru collapses. Similar occurrences were at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and 2003 World Championships in France.Eight days after her win, Ugandas golden girl was driven to Parliament in a stately motorcade where MPs passed a motion saluting her for winning a gold medal.Bakabulindi said he only promised Inzikuru a house.”When she put too much pressure on me, I assisted her to acquire an official passport, one of the green ones, but she wanted both the official and diplomatic passport which is rather ridiculous,” he said.”They have wasted my training time. I have walked to Parliament and the Ministry of Education since August. They are not being straight forward to me. They are tossing me around like a ball,” she said.Bakabulindi said, “She came to see me three times. I told her that government does not work like a kiosk. I think shes being ill-advised. We shall handle this thing at its pace.”
