Fenomenale sprinter niet naar Gemenebest Spelen

Usain Bolt- Sprinter van wereldformaat

Jamaicas Usain Bolt favourite to win the Commonwealth Games 200 metres gold medal has pulled out of the Games with a muscle strain according to his coach Glen Mills.Mills revealed in an interview with The Observer newspaper in Jamaica, that the 19-year-old world junior record holder will not make the trip to Melbourne.

Hamstringproblemen
Instead Bolt the fastest Commonwealth 200m runner in the world last year with a time of 19.99 seconds, will require two to three weeks for the injury to heal properly.”I am not inclined to send him if he is not 100 per cent fit,” Mills told the Observer. “The meet requires several rounds and an injury of this nature must be rested, if it is to heal properly.”Bolt whose personal best of 19.93sec easily outstrips the performances of the major rivals he would have met at the Games, picked up the injury in a 4x400m relay on Saturday night. This latest problem comes after Bolt last summer pulled a hamstring in the final of the World Championships 200m in Helsinki and limped in last. Mills said Bolt was “disappointed that he would not be going” to Melbourne, but the coach is very hopeful he would be fit and ready to compete when the western hemisphere summer season gets underway.”He is a professional athlete and running is his job,” said Mills of the phenomenal sprinter who announced his arrival when winning the 2002 world junior 200m gold medal as a 15-year-old.The Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association, have told the Observer there will be no replacement for Bolt, with entries for the Games having closed.
