Marathon kid Budhia to run in London

Budhia hier met zijn trainer en mentor

Bhubaneswar: Budhia Singh, the four-and-a-half-year-old Oriya kid who shot to fame for his ability to run long distances, is now set to display his forte in London later this month, his coach said yesterday.

“We are going to London on May 15, where Budhia will meet the worlds top marathon runners, including the worlds oldest marathon runner Fouja Singh, Biranchi Das, his foster father and coach said. According to him, Buddhia may also participate in a marathon there, details of which are not yet known. He will also undergo a thorough medical check up, though doctors here say that there is no cause of concern about his health. Prior to his departure, the wonder-kids running ability will be recorded by officials of the Limca Book of Records on May 2, informed Das. Budhia is to run a distance of about 70km, starting from the lion gate of the Jagannath temple in Puri to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) centre in the capital, said Das. He added that a special ambulance will accompany him during the run, which is sponsored by the CRPF.

Wie is Budhia
Budhia is from Bhubaneswar. In 2004, he was sold to a man for Rs 800/- because his mother, who washes dishes, was unable to provide for four children, after the death of their father in the same year.It proved to be a turning point for Budhia. His talent was discovered in the guise of a punishment meted out to him by the president of the residents association and judo coach, Biranchi Das. Das had ordered the mischievous kid to keep running till he returned. To his astonishment, when he returned after around four hours, Budhia was still running, and showed little signs of exhaustion. Das took him under his tutelage. Since then little Budhia has not looked back…
