Gisteren maakten wij melding van de nominatie van Asafa Powel voor de prestigeuze USA Sports Academy 2005 Athlete of the Year Award. Ook Paula Radcliffe is genomineerd.
World marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe is one of the contenders for the United States Sports Academy 2005 Athlete of the Year Award. Radcliffe winner of this years Flora London marathon in April and Augusts IAAF World Championship title, faces tough opposition to lift the prestigious prize.

The male or female athlete receiving the most votes in a poll received from tens of thousands of nominations of sports fans around the globe, will be named the overall winner.Female candidates for the prestigious prize include Kim Clijsters, Natalie Coughlin, Tirunesh Dibaba, Yolanda Griffith, Yelena Isinbayeva, Gao Jun, Deena Kastor, Nastia Liukin, Danica Patrick, Radcliffe, Irina Slutskaya, Annika Sorenstam and Venus Williams.The 2005 male ballot features Lance Armstrong, Tom Brady, Reggie Bush, Tim Duncan, Jermaine Dye, Roger Federer, Matt Leinart, Peyton Manning, Bode Miller, Aaron Peirsol, Asafa Powell, Tony Stewart and Tiger Woods.Past winners include Mia Hamm, Michael Jordan, with Armstrong, Sorenstam, and Woods again strong challengers to be named winner. The online voting window closes on December 24 and in addition to the overall award, a Female Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year will also be selected.
